MIND-BODY HEALTH 10L

Mind-Body Health 10L is an elective course approved by the Ministry of Education for the province of Saskatchewan. Students Grades 10 - 12 are offered the opportunity to learn practical methods for self regulation, coping with challenges and navigating relationships. By gaining skills and strategies, students will feel empowered as they embark upon adulthood. Build focus, boost attention and connect with community - this course is designed with teens in mind with fun interactive lessons, community service projects and other educational opportunities to help foster confidence and nurture development. Isla’s passion for the enhancement of mental health literacy for youth has led her to develop MBH 10L with the hope of assisting teachers equip students with meaningful, real-world skills they can carry beyond the classroom.

Classroom curriculum and other school programs and extracurricular activities are also vital to influencing youths’ perceptions of mental health, raising awareness about the signs of mental illness, ensuring youth know when and where support is available, and helping to reduce stigma so kids get help when they need it. Integrated, school-based mental health curriculum is what helps improve knowledge and attitudes around mental health, particularly upstream interventions that take a holistic and multi-tiered approach.” - Canadian Association of Principals

  • MBH 10L offers students the opportunity to explore what it means to be human through daily reflection, movement, and mindfulness practices. Students develop a personal well-being practice they can carry with them long after the semester ends. The course introduces the science of stress and its effects on the mind and body, while exploring key concepts such as gratitude, compassion, equanimity, and introspection. Through guided practices, students learn how to foster a growth mindset and gain an understanding of the importance of sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and meaningful connection in supporting overall well-being.

    Q: How does my school find this course? A: Principals can add this course to their curriculum offerings by contacting their division office. The school division is able to “adopt” the course into their particular division for individual schools to then offer the course. Next step is for the Principal to add the course to their school elective course offerings!

    Q: What types of support are available for participants? A: If needed, students are supported by school counsellors who can connect the student with appropriate care. Class teacher/instructor manages the class in a way that allows the participant to explore the content in a way that is safe and empowering to the individual. Parent/Teacher communication is available and students will always have a choice. Parent/student waivers are required for the class and provide clarity on what may be expected throughout the semester.
